Editorial policy
How we choose sources, write, translate, check and correct every page on Newcomer Board.
Official sources first
We build guides from primary sources: Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), other Government of Canada pages, provincial governments, Statistics Canada, the Bank of Canada and government-funded settlement agencies. Every guide names its main source and links to it at the top of the page.
Dated and re-checked
Each guide shows when it was published and when we last checked it against the source. Numbers such as Express Entry draws, exchange rates and statistics are refreshed automatically from official data and show their own update time.
Plain language
We write for people whose first language is not English: short sentences, everyday words, and a glossary for official terms. We explain what a rule means in practice, but we do not tell you what to do in your own case.
How guides are made
Guides are drafted with the help of software, including AI tools, and checked against the official source linked on the page before they are published. Example posts that are not finished are clearly marked “Sample” and kept out of search results.
Translations
English is the original. Translations are labelled on every page. Machine translations are hidden from search engines until a person who speaks the language has reviewed them.
Independence
Ads and sponsorships pay for the site. They are labelled, kept apart from guides, and sponsors never see or edit a guide before it is published. We do not accept referral fees from immigration consultants or lawyers.
Corrections
Found a mistake or an out-of-date rule? Email hello@newcomer-board.example with the page address. When we confirm an error we fix the page and update its “last checked” date.
