Terms of use

The short version: use the guides as a starting point, always check the official source, and treat your own case with IRCC or a licensed professional.

General information only

Guides, news summaries, tools and translations on Newcomer Board are general information. They are not legal, immigration, tax or financial advice, and reading them does not create a client relationship with anyone.

The official source wins

Every guide links to the government or official page it is based on. Rules, fees and processing times change. If our page and the official page disagree, follow the official page and tell us so we can fix ours. We work to keep pages accurate, but we cannot promise they are complete or current, and we are not responsible for decisions you make based on them.

Not a government website

Newcomer Board is independent. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or paid by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) or any other government.

Tools and calculators

Calculators give estimates from the numbers you enter and the published rates we show next to them. Your real taxes, pay or test results can be different.

Translations

English is the original. Each page tells you whether you are reading the English original, a translation checked by a person, or a machine translation. Machine translations can contain mistakes.

Ads, sponsors and links

We show Google ads and clearly labelled sponsor banners. Advertisers do not write or approve our guides. Links to other websites are for your convenience; we are not responsible for their content.

What you post

If you post in the Q&A board, you keep ownership of your words but let us show them on the site. Do not post personal documents, application numbers or anything illegal or hateful. We may remove posts and accounts that break these rules.

Copyright

Our text and illustrations belong to Newcomer Board. You may quote a short part with a link back. Photos belong to their authors and are used under the licences listed on the About page.

Changes and contact

We may update these terms; the date below shows the latest version. Questions: hello@newcomer-board.example.
